Music with a Spirit

... moves body and mind!

The Syanna Project...

is kind of a mystery project. You won't find my music on social media and I don't really promote it.
There are no concerts or tickets either. So... what is the real purpose of this project? Read on...

Where most bands and artists focus on earning money, to me, composing is a necessity. Making music feels like nothing else in the world! I'm doing it for the sheer pleasure and the satisfaction I get out of it.

Even if AI is very tempting, I refuse to use it. The signs are already visible: in the near future, this cold, unpersonal technology will supersede every form of human creativity and originality!

Composing from the heart is a totally different process: it's wonderful to feel the vibes, the ecstacy, the connection! The amazement and the enthusiasm when contradictory elements fit together nicely after all! And yes, these elements are embedded in the music.

Simple, predictable (read: commercial) music was never my cup of tea. Instead, I embrace surprise, challenge, contradiction. I love the dreamy, sometimes haunting vocals and their cryptical messages. Love the  exciting kicks and basses. They're simply part of the game!

As soon as a track is in the pipeline, I play it repeatedly. Can I just sit and listen? Hell no! Let's dance!

A selection of elements that make my music so apart and specific

The Spiritual factor

is reflected in the atmosphere
of almost every track.

The Unexpected...

The amazement and enthusiasm when seemingly conflicting elements snugly fit together!

The Dance factor

Is there a better way to move body AND mind? Let's dance!

The Project

is a blink to 'The Alan Parsons Project', a successful band from the 80's and 90's. Even after all this time, certain influences of their instrumentals are still to be found in some of my tracks.

A mysterious hobby

What started as a hobby, became a lifestyle: not only dit I put my emotions and experiences in my music. Slowly but surely the focus shifted towards the spiritual!

I was always fascinated by mysteries. Which of course were reflected in my music.

Years later, the spiritual vibe kicked in. But I didn't quite understand what was going on at the time.

The subconscious

Music can penetrate a part of ourselves we barely know: our subconscious mind.
It reacts mainly to signals the mind cannot perceive... and reacts in a way that doesn't always make sense.

If music has such a mysterious effect on the mind, I wonder. Are my tracks only destined to serve my evolution? Or is there more to it?

The early days

After the 4-track-age came an Atari with the forerunner of Cubase. A great tool, that could only transmit midi-data to a physical (multitimbral) instrument. A massive improvement!

As computers, daws, instruments and plugins became increasingly performant, I evolved as well.

I started with pop-rock, but did some experiments with ethereal stuff. ('Chaos' is a nice example), The airy, dreamy vocals that I use today, were already very present in this period.

Even with the technology of today, my track radiate those typical echoes from the past. Let's face it: it's inevitable.

And so the musical process includes every element of human existence:

Past - Present - Future.

Are you curious about the songs, the messages? Just give it a go. You never know if something attracts YOUR attention!

We are failing

We are beginning to realize that we are failing as a society. We traded our human nature for power and money. Nothing else matters. Our technology has reached its pinnacle. What's next? Breakdown… imminent!

A long way

The road to perfection is long and full of obstacles. It takes a lifetime, only to discover that life is not what we thought it'd be. When will we understand that we don't need to go anywhere?

Older tracks

Era of Despair : : This sad era lasted way too long. The desire for an other, better world has become stronger than ever. This is the end of an Era of Despair !

Day and Night : : Trying to describe the transition to the new era ...

Afterburner : : Engage your afterburner, take off and rocket towards the unknown... never to return!

My most important gear

Digital audio workstation:

Apple Macbook Pro 16" M4 max

This is my most important piece of kit. A delight to work with! It's fast and beautiful.

I don't regret having bought this suberp piece of technology: it literally handles everything!

Sound stuff:

Yamaha MG10XU Mixing panel :

A small but powerful allrounder. It's not only a mixing panel, but also an external soundcard. It works perfectly with Logic.

My Adam A7 studio speakers may be a slightly outdated, they still sound very okay to my ears.

My recently bought Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro headphones are considered to be THE standard in music production.

Other important stuff:

Novation Launchkey mk 2

Why put a weighty, full-size synth on your desk if this tiny thing does the job? Its ultra-compact size makes everything so much lighter! I also like the coloured tiles a lot.

It even fits under my computer keyboard when not in use: neat!
